On Wednesday, 17 September 2025, Telemark County joined ICORN during the Norwegian ICORN Network Meeting in Stavanger. By becoming part of the network, Telemark joins more than 90 other ICORN Cities and Regions of Refuge, committing to protect and promote free expression, democratic values, and international solidarity.

The ICORN Membership Agreement was signed on stage at Folken, the cultural venue hosting the Norwegian ICORN Network Meeting, 17-19 September. The agreement was signed by Maja Foss Five, Cultural Director at Telemark County, and Helge Lunde, ICORN’s Executive Director.

As a member region, Telemark County will not directly host writers, artists, and journalists at risk due to their work and professional activities. Instead, the county will support the ICORN Cities of Refuge in the region. Currently, there are four Cities of Refuge in Telemark: Midt-Telemark, Tokke, Skien, and Porsgrunn.

ICORN warmly welcomes Telemark County to the network and looks forward to working for freedom of expression.
