Located on the east coast adjacent to Stockholm, Nacka is one of Sweden’s 20 largest municipalities. With approximately 114 000 inhabitants, Nacka forms part of the greater Stockholm metropolitan area, which is home to around 1.1 million people. In 2026, Nacka joined ICORN and became a City of Refuge which will offer a safe and supportive environment for writers, artists, and journalists at risk.

The ICORN residency in Nacka is managed by the Cultural and Leisure Administration, in collaboration with the Administration for Social Welfare Allocation, Security, and Housing. The city has also assigned a coordinator to support Nacka’s future ICORN residents with practical matters and facilitate connections to the cultural life and professional networks within Nacka and the wider Stockholm region.

Nacka has four cultural centres situated in each of the four major parts of the municipality. All four have a variety of cultural activities and facilities for artists of all backgrounds. In collaboration with the cultural centres, Nacka provides a broad cultural arena for project collaborations and networking.

ICORN welcomes Nacka to the network.
