
Kristiansand has been a City of Refuge since 1998 and a member of ICORN since 2006.
The city has hosted nine writers, artists, and journalists in ICORN residence. These include Iraqi writer Ayad al-Rikabi, writer Carlos Sherman from Belarus and Uruguay, Iraqi writer, translator, and academic Salah Salim Ali, Vietnamese writer, journalist, and film director Song Chi, writer, poet, and journalist Haile Bizen from Eritrea, journalist and writer Mengesha Yemane from Eritrea, Iraqi poet and journalist Ali Hayder, journalist and human rights activist Michel Biem Tong from Cameroon, and Eritrean journalist, writer, and human rights activist Wahab Michael Sbhatu.
