Through the Hannah Arendt Fellowship, Hanover, the capital city of the German state of Lower Saxony in northern Germany, offers writers and journalists at risk temporary protective residencies. For two years, writers and journalists can continue their work, expand their professional networks, and enrich the city as ambassadors of their culture(s) of origin.

The Hannah Arendt Fellowship is organised by the city’s Cultural Office and the Literaturhaus, an independent cultural NGO, as well as through private engagement. From 2002 to 2025, Hannover has hosted ten writers and artists. This initially took place in cooperation with the International Parliament of Writers (IPW). In 2006, Hanover took part in the founding of ICORN in Stavanger, Norway, and has since been an ICORN member city.
