SAFE, BUT NOT SILENT: ICORN receives major 3 year's grant from Sida
The grant is awarded under the Swedish Government's Special Initiative for Democratisation and Freedom of Expression, and the main objective of the programme is to "supply safe havens for persecuted and previously silenced actors for change, and create platforms where they can intervene for democracy and freedom of expression, from their current position of exile".
"This is a major breakthrough for ICORN", says director Helge Lunde. "The grant from Sida will enable us to sustain and strengthen our organisation, so that we can meet the challenges and expectations facing us on the global arena in the years to come". He continues "Recruiting more member cities in and beyond Europe, we will be able both to offer an increasing number of persecuted writers a safe haven, and to work with our member cities to make the writer placements even more effective tools for democratisation and freedom of expression."
