Reykjavik has become new ICORN City of Refuge

On Thursday 13 October at 10 am, the Mayor of Reykjavik Jón Gnarr signed the agreement between Reykjavik and ICORN during a public event at the Iceland Exhibition Grounds at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

ICORN Chair of Board Peter Ripken was present on behalf of ICORN, and the signature event also included the launch of Reykjavik as UNESCO City of Literature.

"This is a great achievement and a major breakthrough for our organisation", says ICORN director Helge Lunde. "Acclaimed writer and President of Icelandic PEN Sjón took the initiative, the municipality of Reykjavik actively embraced the idea of becoming an ICORN city of refuge, and we we have all reasons to believe that Reykjavik will play an important role in the future development of ICORN."
