These are the initial lines of the documentary ‘Nothing is Forgiven’ by Savage Film, which tells the story of how Moroccan activist and journalist Zineb El Rhazoui, who survived the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris in January 2015. Zineb El Rhazoui, was ICORN writer-in-residence in Ljubljana City of Refuge 2011-2013, when she started working for the satirical magazine in Paris.
When the Arab Spring turned into the Islamist Autumn, Zineb decided to leave Morocco. Unable to find work and fearing for her safety in Morocco, she finds a new professional family in Charlie Hebdo. For the first time in her career, she can work in uncensored freedom amongst kindred souls.
On the 7th of January 2015, her newfound happiness is shot down. As by wonder, she was not present when the terrorists killed her friends and colleagues. From that day on, she became the most protected woman in France, under constant police protection.
Shocked at first, Zineb quickly decided to make a stand against terrorism, and became a public figure speaking out against radical Islam. She gets pregnant and her outlook on the future changes drastically. How to build a life under these conditions? What will the life of her baby girl look like surrounded by bodyguards?
