Stavanger's Mayor Christine Sagen Helgø has dedicated today in honour of ICORN Guest Writer Norwan and other women who are struggling for basic rights and freedoms around the world.

The mayor made the announcement on her Facebook page and she includes a poem that Norwan has composed for the women of her homeland, Afghanistan. Mayor Helgø writes, 'a beautiful poem from our brave City of Refuge author, Norwan, who had to flee Afghanistan last year. In Stavanger and Norway she can exercise freedom of speech, albeit under a pseudonym. Let the day be a celebration of strong women like Norwan and for equality both at home and in countries where it is hidden away.'

Norwan was today featured in an article in local newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad, where she talks about the lack women's rights in her homeland of Afghanistan and how her life changed after coming to Norway. The article (in Norwegain only) can be read here.
