ICORN goes to Chicago

ICORN goes to Chicago
ICORN goes to Chicago

On Friday 25 and Saturday 26 April, the ICORN guest writers Manal al-Sheikh (Iraq/Stavanger) and Mazen Maarouf (Palestine/Reykjavik) will be performing in Chicago under the title “Voices of Protest – celebrating global literature + freedom of expression”. An Al-Jazeera-produced film on each of them will be screened during the event, and the writers will read from their works and engage in dialogue with the audience.

The events are organized by the Guild Literary Complex in Chicago, and one of the ideas is to explore the potentials for the City of Chicago to become an ICORN City of Refuge to persecuted writers. In that regard, ICORN director Helge Lunde will give a speech in the Chicago Temple Building on Wednesday 23 April, titled: “Safe, but hot silent: How ICORN helps persecuted writers”.
