Defiance!

Defiance is the theme for this year's edition of Kapittel, Stavanger's International Festival for Literature and Freedom of Speech. Several ICORN guest writers are appearing in the festival programme. You will have the chance to meet Mana Neyestani, Manal Al-Sheikh, Norwan, Andrei Nekrasov, Maria Amelie and Mansur Rajih during the festival, which runs from Wednesday 21 to Sunday 25 September.

Kapittel is the second largest literature festival in Norway. It maintains a strong focus on international literature and social issues, in particular freedom of speech.

The aim of the festival is to bring new literary voices to its audience and to provide a venue for a wide range of fiction and non-fiction from Norwegian and international writers.

The ICORN guest writers will appear in events throughout the festival, sharing their work and participating in discussions and interviews. ICORN is in collaboration with Shahrazad - stories for life and Stavanger City of Refuge, co-hosting no less than 11 events during the festival. For this year's ICORN lecture, we have invited Ola Larsmo from Swedish PEN to talk about how words can kill. We are happy to announce that the lecture will be translated and made available here at icorn.org. Larry Siems from PEN American Center will attend the festival as well, taking part in a debate on internet and social media. He will also interview Norwan, Stavanger's current guest writer.
The festival runs from 21-25 September. Please see the Kapittel website for more info on the program and guests.
