Cites for Writers or Writers for Cities?

In 2016, when Wroclaw was European Capital of Culture, one of its key aims was to develop trans-European cultural networks and collaborations. 15 and 16 March 2018 they organize the AIR WRO TALKS 3.0 , subtitled “international collaboration : networks : mobility”. The event brings together experts and practitioners active in the field of culture, art and research, as well as in the creative sector, who carry out projects at the international level. This year’s edition will take up the subject of collaboration, networks and platforms created by cultural operators in selected geographical areas to determine the levels of joint activities in the future.

On Thursday 15 March, one of the discussion panels is titled: “ICORN, the international cities of refuge network: Authors for Cities or Cities for Authors?” ICORN coordinators and writers/artists in Polish cities will together with ICORN director Helge Lunde will engage with the audience in a debate on how to make optimally sense of a network like ICORN, and how different networks and platforms can deepen and increase their collaboration in larger European contexts.

Already on Friday 22 February, the public of Wroclaw can experience their own ICORN artist Umar Abdul-Nasser from Mosul, Iraq, during an event one of the city’s  literary festivals. At Klub Proza and under the title Bridges of Love, Umar will perform together with guitarist Marcin Wislocki and composer and musician Ameen Mokdad.
