Awards, scholarships, festivals and conferences for writers, journalists and filmmakers.

This fall offers a lot of opportunities for submitting papers, films, nominations and applications for a wide range of awards, scholarships, festivals, conferences and more. This article lists many of them, and we are happy to receive tips about others that the ICORN Guest Writers could benefit from being aware of!

The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme 2011

This programme offers residencies for young artists, including writers, around the world. Apply in November to be considered for residencies in India or France!

The Scholar Rescue Fund

The Institute of International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF) provides fellowship grants for scholars whose lives or careers are threatened in their home countries. Applications and nominations are accepted at any time throughout the year, on a rolling basis. Go here to learn more, and to find information in Arabic, Persian, French and Spanish.

The 2nd Int'l Conference on Democracy as Idea and Practice

This conference at the University of Oslo is now accepting paper proposals.  Beacon for Freedom of Expression is co-sponsoring a session on Democracy and Censorship (listed as Workshop 6 in the linked site above), which may perhaps be of special interest to ICORN Guest Writers.

Special Edition of Journal of Arts and Communities

The Journal of Arts and Communities will be publishing a Special Edition dedicated to critical examination of Arts and Human Rights in September 2011, in partnership with Amnesty International as part of their 50th Anniversary celebrations.
