Tesfagiorgis Habte Kelati

Journalist/Author

Tesfagiorgis Habte Kelati is an Eritrean journalist and author. He worked as a teacher, and after graduating with a degree in journalism and mass-communication from the University of Asmara, he worked as a public relations officer for the Ministry of Education.

In addition to his regular duties at the ministry, he freelanced for Hidri Magazine, Shaebia.org, and contributed sporadically for the educational Radio Bana, Hadas Eritrea and Eritrea Profile.

During a period of repression when the radio station was subjected to a raid, Tesfagiorgis was taken from his office and detained by the military on the 19th of February 2009.  He remained in captivity without facing formal charges for four years.  After his release on March 19, 2013, he left the country in June 2014. Since April 27, 2017, he is an ICORN writer in Luleå.
