Asker

ICORN member since:
  • 2018

Member: Asker Municipality

Partner and host: Asker Public Library

The City of Asker, located in Eastern Norway, is one of the newer members of ICORN. Asker joined ICORN in 2018 after a unanimous vote by Asker City Council on June 12th, 2018. Since then, Asker has been committed to taking on the responsibility of hosting and protecting writers, artists and journalists who are restricted from working in their home countries.

While Asker Municipality and the City of Asker are the official ICORN members, Asker Public Library is the official host of ICORN Residents. Siri Tidemann Naalsund, Director of Asker Public Library, says:

'By offering a persecuted artist refuge in the city, the Municipality of Asker stands up for freedom of expression, and shows that what happens globally also impacts us locally. It will bring strength and inspiration to our local cultural life and international work.'

Since joining ICORN in 2018, Asker has welcomed its first ICORN Resident writer and journalist Xebat Rasouli on whom you can find more information below.
