On the road to ICORN

Within the frames of the upcoming PEN International World Congress, the City of Lviv organizes an ICORN motivation conference on Monday 18 September

Dedicated persons from the arts sector and the Lviv UNESCO City of Literature have been exploring the possibilities for Lviv to become an ICORN City of Refuge for writers and artists at risk.

At the conference on Monday, ICORN director Helge Lunde will hold a keynote motivation talk, while Justyna Jochym and Robert Piaskowskie from Krakow Festival Office/UNESCO City of Literature, and Danuta Glondys and Dominika Kasprowicz from the Villa Decius Association will bring forth experiences from pioneering work to become the first ICORN city in neighboring Poland.  

Why Lviv should join ICORN is the title of Deputy Mayor Andrei Moskalenko’s intervention, and Head of Lviv’s UNESCO City of Literature team, Bohdana Brylynska, will also be on the podium. The second part of the conference has the form of a more practical workshop, aimed to develop a roadmap for the City of Lviv to join ICORN.

The organizers expect journalists, representatives from the local human rights, culture and educational sector to take part in the conference, as well as municipal politicians.

PEN International organizes its 83rd World congress in Lviv 18-22 September 2017. under the title Reclaiming Truth in the Age of Propaganda between two and three hundred writers from all over the world will be gathered, among them Andrei Kurkov, Svetlana Alexievitch, Paul Auster, Madeleine Thien, Philippe Sands and Jennifer Clement.
