Casa Refúgio are happy to welcome Mexico City’s new guest writer Mohsen Emadi. Mr. Emadi is a Persian poet and translator.

Mohsen Emadi arrived in Mexico City early August this year and is the new guest writer at Casa Refúgio. Mr. Emadi is a poet and has published several poetry collections, he also works as a translator of poetry into Persian.

In 2006, Mr. Emadi founded The Persian Anthology of World Poetry (or the House of World Poets), where he started to publish his translation after experiencing extensive censorship in the Islamic republic. He was later joined by other translators and the Anthology currently features more than 300 world poets.

Mr. Emadi debuted with the poetry collection, “La flor de los renglones”, in 2003. In 2007 he released “We did not speak of her eyes” followed by “Las leyes de la gravedad” in 2011. His latest work is entitled “Visible come el aire, legible como la muerte” and is scheduled for release in Spain later this year.

Mr. Emadi has the sole right on digital publishing of the work of Ahmad Shamlou, one of the major figures of Persian contemporary poetry and intellectuality whose work were forbidden for 16 years by the Islamic Republic.

Mr. Emadi's cultural-political activities date back to the student movement of 1999. Recently he was a supporter of Green Movement after the election coup of Ahmadinejad in 2009 and his political essays and interviews appeared in several Persian and Spanish media and newspaper.

Mohsen Emadi was awarded the International prize Poesia de Miedo in 2010 and IV. Beca de Antonio Machado in 2011.
