Jahangir Alam Akash, guest writer in Tromsø City of Refuge, has released a new book entitled "Fra tortur til trygghet" ("From Torture to Safety").

In his latest book Akash writes about his experiences, both good and bad, from his home land Bangladesh. He describes what is was like coming to Norway and meeting the Norwegian people and their culture. Akash also shares some of his reflections on peace, human rights and how we all can work towards a healthy and democratic society.

Akash was born in 1974 and grew up in Panchagarh, Bangladesh. He has a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Rajshahi and has worked as a journalist for 20 years. His critical journalistic work led to him being threatened, arrested and tortured. After his release he fled the country with his wife and son. Akash has published six books, "Fra Tortur til trygghet" is his first book published in Norwegian and it is available from the website Bokkilden.
