Swedish PEN has just released the latest installment of The Dissident Blog.

The blog's mission is 'to publish texts by writers, journalists, and bloggers who are prevented from printing their works in their home countries. [The Dissident Blog]...publish[es] texts that elicit outrage, that provoke, that demonstrate courage, that raise questions; texts that in certain places are considered too dangerous to be read.'

This edition features poetry by ICORN Guest Writer in Reykjavik Mazen Maarouf, as well as dispatches from Afghanistan and Belarus on the status of free speech in the respective countries. July's Dissident Blog also includes a Syrian author's reflection on the craft of writing while her home country is in chaos, an update on the two Swedish journalists imprisoned in Ethiopia for more than a year and an essay about the importance of poetry in the lives of Afghan women.
