ICORN film-maker receives Oxfam Novib/PEN Award
During a presentation at the Spui Theatre during the Writers Unlimited Festival in The Hauge, Russian film-maker and journalist Andrei Nekrasov received the Oxfam Novib/PEN Award from human rights ambassador Lionel Veer. The award is presented annually to writers and journalists who are being prosecuted or have had to flee because of their critical writings.
Nekrasov and ICORN
In recent years Nekrasov's work has focused on Russian politics and human rights. One example is his documentary “Disbelief” from 2004, on the 1999 terrorist attack in Moscow. It won him the prize for best documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. The film is banned in Russia. As a result of his work Nekrasov has regularly received threats of different kinds and he has been forced to flee. ICORN is therefore proud to announce that Nekrasov has been invited to one of our cities of refuge where he is expected to arrive shortly.
