More than 30 visual artists, musician, journalists and writers met for two days in June at the City Library of Uppsala and exchanged experience on how to establish as a professional in the cultural sector in Sweden. Lectures were mixed with “best practice” and workshops.

ICORN artists in Sweden and participants to the network The trick to Participate (Konsten att delta) met in Region Uppsala for the first network meeting. They exchanged experiences on how to create networks and how to establish yourself as a professional in the cultural sector in Sweden.

Among the speakers were Anna Livion Ingvarsson, Secretary General at Swedish PEN, on the topic Why Is Art So Important?; Karin Hansson, National Coordinator ICORN in Sweden, shared knowledge about ICORN and how the network is set up in Sweden; Khaled Harara, Palestinian rapper and musician, former ICORN resident in Gothenburg, talked about his project Zouqaq, a project to set up music studios in Gaza. Among the speakers were also Enköping Culture Department together with the Employment office in Enköping, which gave best practice advice on how a municipality can work to support non-established artists.

Participants attended a workshop in project management in the cultural sector, held by Smart Production House. The two days ended with a speed dating session where the participants met representatives from The Swedish Writers Union, The Trick to Participate, ICORN, KRO/KIf; Region Uppsala, Municipality of Uppsala.

The meeting was funded by The Swedish Arts Council and the Region of Uppsala.
