Philo Ikonya, Anisur Rahman Featured at the Nordic Black Theatre International Poetry Festival, 27 September 2011
Added: 09 September 2011 to Events, Festivals and Opportunities
Directly following Anisur Rahman's Creative Writing workshop, the Nordic Black Theatre will hold its 2011 International Poetry Festival on 27 September from 19.00-23.00. Writers from Kenya, Georgia, Bangladesh, and Scandinavia will present their works, in addition to the particpants in Anisur's workshop itself. Two of ICORN's writers in residence will attend, Kenya/Oslo's Philo Ikonya and Bangladeshi author Anisur Rahman, Uppsala's guest writer from 2009-2011.
The poetry festival will bring together a wide range of writers from differing backgrounds and experiences. ICORN guest writer Philo Ikonya is a novelist, poet, and journalist with a Masters degree in Literature from the University of Nairobi. Ikonya's outspoken political stances caused her to question her safety within Kenya. Anisur Rahman is a playwright and novelist who studied Literature and Linguistics at the University of Dhaka. He is the major translator of the work of Henrik Ibsen into Bengali and recently won a scholarship to write about Sweden. His play 'Lars Vik' will have its world premiere at the Theatre Blanca in Uppsala on 14 November.
